A few things to remember As excitement mounts superiority of the opening meetings of the 2018/19SteeplechaseSeason we thought we should remind Club Secretaries & Receivers of Entries of a few important rules & directives. Owners and Trainers should moreover take note.  Every owner must name his greyhound surpassing the time stock-still for tropical of entries (Rule 95). You may have 2 x Reserves in an 8 Dog Stake, 4 x Reserves in a 16 or 32 Dog Stake and 6 x Reserves in a 64 Dog Stake. 48 runner trial stakes must now be drawn with 24 runners in each half. At quarter-final stage with six greyhounds remaining, the 3rd greyhound in each half gets a Bye resulting in four dogs remaining on the final day. No Owner/Partnership/Syndicate may have a runner AND a reserve in the same stake, however they are unliable to have two runners in the same stake (must be guarded in the draw). If a greyhound appears in the yank for two All Age events which are due to run meantime it will not be unliable to run in either and shall be penalised for 12 days. If a greyhound is woolgathering from any stake or withdrawn from any stake it will not be unliable to compete for 12 Days. (Subject to Rule 122).  If such authorisation is not granted and the greyhound competes,  it shall be ruled and forfeit all trophies & prizemoney won. As a rule of thumb we count the final day of the meeting where it was absent/withdrawn as Day 1 of the 12. Directive No 16 covers Prizemoney Ratios in All Age Cup and All Age Bitch events. In a 32 Cup the ratio is 10:3:1 so for every ten units to the Winner, the Runner-Up must receive at least three units and the tamed semi-finalists at least one unit each (E.G Winner €1800 – RunnerUp €540 – Semi-Finalists €180 each).  In a 16 Cup the ratio is 10:3 so for every ten units to the Winner, the Runner-Up must receive at least three units (E.G Winner €1,400 – RunnerUp €420). Winner’s prizemoney for All Age Cups and All Age Bitch Stakes cannot be reverted from that which appeared in the Sporting Press prior to the draw. The Entry Fee for ALL 32/48/64 runner trial stakes is now €50.  Winner to receive €1.500 (32) or €2,000 (48/64).  There is no transpiration to 16 runner trial stakes which will protract to have an Entry Fee of €40 and winner’s prize of €600. Reserve Trial Stakes 2018/19 Reserves for Derby and Oaks 2018/19 (Club alphabetical)   OAKS     DERBY 1 Ballyheigue & Dist   1 Ballinagar 2 Borris in Ossory   2 Cappoquin Clogheen 3 Cork   3 Co Cavan 4 East Donegal (2)   4 Doon 5 Freshford   5 Ennis Clarecastle 6 Mallow   6 Johnstown & Url 7 Mitchelstown & Dist   7 Kilflynn 8 Nenagh   8 Killimer Kilrush 9 North Kilkenny   9 Macroom 10 Rathcormac   10 Sevenhouses 11 Tipperary   11 South Clare 12 Trim   12 Waterford & Dist 13 Westmeath United       At the 2019 NationalSteeplechaseMeeting there will be two Consolation Stakes. The Kitty Butler Stakes for 32 bitches eliminated in the first round of the Oaks. The T.A. Morris Stakes for 32 dogs eliminated in the first round of the Derby. In the event of these stakes not stuff filled by those eliminated from the first round of the Oaks/Derby the remaining places will be allocated to reserves in the Oaks/Derby which did not get tabbed to run in those stakes. These reserves must have run a non-competitive undertow at the end of the first round of the Oaks/Derby. A new yank will be made to determine which reserves are to receive the remaining places in the Consolation Stakes and which reserves are to be listed as Reserves A,B,C and D for the Consolation Stakes. The yank for the Consolation Stakes will then take place. The first round of the Kitty Butler Stakes will take place at the end of steeplechase on the first day of the National Meeting. The first round of the TA Morris Stakes will take place at the start of steeplechase on the second day of the National Meeting.   Martin Glendon – A man for all seasons It is with unconfined sadness, and with undying gratitude, that Johnstown and UrlingfordSteeplechaseClub offer their condolences to the family of Martin Glendon who passed yonder peacefully at his home in Clomantagh on Thursday without a long illness. Martin was Vice President and Flag Steward at our club for many years. He was moreover a well-known and much loved slipper who officiated at our own meeting and wider unsuitably for over thirty years. He was moreover a renowned net man, whose knowledge of hares and tenderness when handling the hares was second to none. His passing is expressly poignant as he bears the name of one of the most warmed-over families in the historic settlement of Clomantagh. Indeed, it was under the Clomantagh prefix that he raced and coursed his greyhounds, enjoying unconfined success over the years. Martin was a shrewd dog man who enjoyed the odd flutter, and when he laid money on one of his hounds they variably came up trumps. His father Pat won an All-Ireland medal with Kilkenny in 1922, and Martin was moreover a fine hurler and a renowned full when whose steel and determination was the driving gravity overdue many a victory for the Emeralds in the 1970’s. Murt, as he was yearningly known, worked for many years as a bus suburbanite for Kavanagh Travel, where his jovial personality endeared him to his passengers. And when he returned home, it was many the unconfined evening his friends spent gathered virtually him in local hostelries as he regaled them with tales of his many and varied adventures. It is fitting that his passing comes as the steeplechase season begins, for it was the time of year when he was most alive. Yearly, as the Clomantagh hills turned from untried to brown, he could be found oiling his slips and putting his hounds through their paces as he tuned them for the season ahead. Martins’ sparsity will be keenly felt over the coming months for he was unchangingly at the heart the occasion. He was a warm and big-hearted man, and wherever he went, laughter and good feelings surrounded him. He will be sorely missed, for he had a magnetic personality and when day’s work was washed-up and it was time to gather round, it was virtually Martin we unchangingly gathered, as he regaled young and old with his wit and his stories and with his famous rendition of the Grand Canal, a song well-nigh a Derby winner, owned and trained by Paddy Dunphy of Castlecomer. He was a wonderful weft and man of fine feeling, and to spend time in his visitor was to come yonder nourished and renewed. His generosity of spirit will ensure that he will be remembered for a long time to come, as will his worthiness to entertain and to patina plane our darkest days with his humour and his heart felt humanity. He was loved by one and all. And he will unchangingly be. May he rest in peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam. Johnstown & UrlingfordSteeplechaseClub Bereavement Notices Very sad news from Co Kilkenny that renowned former steeplechase slipper Martin Glendon, Clomantagh, Woodsgift passed yonder older this morning. Martin slipped at numerous meetings annually from the mid 1980s up to his retirement in 2012. Full obituary from Johnstown & Url CC to follow but for now we proffer our sincere sympathy to his daughters Sharon & Ciara, grandchildren, sisters and extended family. Reposing at Doyle’s Funeral Home, Urlingford tomorrow Friday, September 28th from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. Requiem Mass on Saturday at 10.00am in St Patrick’s Church, Graine followed by solemnities in Clomantagh Cemetery. May he Rest In Peace. A unconfined steeplechase supporter, Thomas (T.M) Holly, will be returned to his native Ballylongford, Co Kerry this weekend for his final place of rest. He sadly passed yonder in Surrey, England older this month. Thomas worked with greyhounds all his life, operating from very successful kennels of some well known owners & trainers. In later years he himself held the Longmeadow prefix and was cruelly denied the endangerment to cheer Longmeadow Raz in the final of the 2013SteeplechaseDerby when the dog was injured in the semi-final and Thomas The Tank was supposed winner. Our sincere sympathy to his wife Karen, brothers, sisters and extended family. Reposing at Lyons Funeral Home, Listowel tomorrow Friday, September 28th from 4.30pm to 7.30pm followed by removal to St Michael The Archangel Church, Ballylongford. Requiem Mass on Saturday at 11.00am with solemnities immediately succeeding in Lislaughtin Abbey, Ballylongford. May he Rest In Peace.
